My Daily Musings-September 16th, 2026
I read John 19:16-19 today and I pondered the meaning, especially verse 17.
16 Then delivered he him therefore unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led him away.
17 And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha:
18 Where they crucified him, and two other with him, on either side one, and Jesus in the midst.
19 And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was, Jesus of Nazareth the King of the Jews.
Jesus carried His heavy cross to Golgotha to be crucified. I’m sure the weight of it would have been so heavy to carry alone. But He did it, for each one of us. I like to tell my readers through my writing that they are never alone, and when their burdens seem really heavy, they don’t have to carry them alone. Because Jesus carried His cross, we don’t have to carry our cross alone.
Let me explain more about what I mean. We all have crosses to bear: trials of illness, financial struggles, family struggles, or whatever difficulties we face. When we feel like our cross is too heavy to bear, we can reach out to our Savior for help. He will help us carry our cross. He will help lift our burdens for us. Most of the time, He won’t take the cross from us, but He will help us carry it so that our load isn’t too difficult to bear.
Some days when we feel alone, we might think that no one can truly understand what we are going through. Jesus understands our pain and suffering because He experienced tremendous suffering Himself. He is the One who can help us carry the cross of the burdens we have to carry. If we reach out to Him, He will always be willing to help us.
What does “carrying your cross” mean to you? How have you felt your Savior strengthen you during a difficult season?
