Following the One We Trust

C.S. Lewis once said, “There would be no sense in saying you trusted Jesus if you would not take his advice.”

That quote made me stop and think about what trust really means.

When we trust a close friend or family member, we are often willing to listen to their counsel because we know they care about us and want what is best for us. We may not always understand their perspective at first, but our trust in them makes us more willing to follow their advice.

How much more should that be true of Jesus Christ?

If we truly trust Him, wouldn’t we want to follow the counsel He has given us? Throughout His ministry, Jesus taught us to feed His sheep, keep His commandments, love one another, forgive others, and abide in Him. His counsel is not meant to restrict us but to guide us toward greater peace, joy, and spiritual strength.

Sometimes His teachings ask us to do things that are difficult or uncomfortable. In those moments, do we trust Him enough to follow even when we don’t fully understand? Do our actions reflect the trust we say we have in Him?

I believe that trust in Jesus is more than believing He exists or knowing His teachings. Trust is demonstrated when we choose to follow Him day by day, step by step. As we do, we discover that His advice is always rooted in perfect love, perfect wisdom, and a perfect understanding of what we need.

The more we trust Him, the more willing we become to follow Him—and the more clearly we see that He truly knows the way.

The One Who Truly Understands

My Daily Musings-June 2nd, 2026

I was recently reminded that Jesus Christ has all power. As humans, we sometimes doubt, especially when we are in the middle of difficult trials. We may feel alone, misunderstood, or like no one truly knows what we are going through. I’ve felt that way at times, especially with my recent health struggles.

But the beautiful truth is that we are never alone. Even when those around us don’t fully understand our challenges, the Savior does. Through His Atonement, Jesus Christ experienced every pain, sorrow, struggle, and heartache so He could perfectly understand how to help and strengthen us. He knows exactly what we are facing because He has already carried it.

How might our burdens feel different if we remembered that the Savior truly understands every detail of our struggles? What would change if we turned to Him first for the strength and healing we need?

Jesus Christ knows us perfectly. He knows our individual needs, our fears, and our hopes. And because He has all power, He also knows how to help us heal, grow, and move forward one step at a time.

Adjusting to a New Normal

My Daily Musings-June 1st, 2026

When the world changed in early 2020 because of Covid, everyone had to adjust to a new normal. Life suddenly looked different, harder, and uncertain. But when my health began changing about 4 1/2 years ago with symptoms of chronic illness and autoimmune disease, I found myself adjusting to a different kind of new normal—one that wasn’t shared by the whole world, but deeply personal to me.

At first, it was incredibly hard to accept the debilitating fatigue and the many symptoms that changed my everyday life. Even now, after years of doctor appointments, few answers, and medications that haven’t helped much, I still find myself adjusting every single day. Chronic illness teaches you that you often don’t know how you’ll feel when you wake up in the morning. How do you plan for life when every day feels uncertain? How do you keep going when there are no easy answers?

For me, the answer has been faith. I keep going because I believe there is always hope around the corner. Even on the hardest days, there is hope for tomorrow. And even if tomorrow isn’t easier, there is still hope in knowing I am not walking through it alone.

This journey has also taught me gratitude in a deeper way. No matter how difficult the day has been, there is always something to be thankful for. Sometimes it is something small, but it still matters. And prayer has become more precious to me than ever before. There are days when talking to my Heavenly Father is the very thing that carries me through.

Maybe we all have “new normals” in life that we never expected. But perhaps faith, hope, gratitude, and prayer are what help us keep adjusting, one day at a time.

Every Day Is a Special Occasion

My Daily Musings-May 31st, 2026

“Don’t save something for a special occasion. Every day of your life is a special occasion.” — Thomas S. Monson

I think as humans we often wait for some future moment before we allow ourselves to fully appreciate life. We tell ourselves, I’ll be happier when this changes or I’ll be more grateful once things get easier. But life is happening right now, in this very moment.

President Thomas S. Monson’s quote reminds me that every single day is a gift from God. Every sunrise, every quiet moment, every small blessing is reason enough to be grateful. Even in the middle of difficult trials, there is still goodness to notice and blessings to count.

What if we stopped waiting for life to become perfect before choosing gratitude? What if the “special occasion” is simply the fact that we are here today?

I have learned through my own experiences that constantly wishing for things to get better can sometimes keep us from seeing the beauty and blessings already surrounding us. Gratitude does not mean life is easy; it means we recognize that God is still good in the middle of hard things.

Every day we are given is sacred. Every moment matters. And perhaps the happiest hearts are the ones that learn to cherish ordinary days as extraordinary gifts.

Strength Born From Hard Days

My Daily Musings-May 30th, 2026

Roger Lee said, “Don’t get angry when life gets too hard on you, be thankful that you’ve been given the opportunity to learn to become stronger.” I really like this quote because it is so true. It also makes me think of the Kelly Clarkson song lyric, “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.”

We are here on this earth to learn and grow and become more like our Savior and our Heavenly Father. Life was never meant to be easy all the time. Trials and hard moments help shape us into the people we are meant to become. Even though we sometimes wish our struggles could simply be taken away, they are often the very things that help us grow stronger in faith, compassion, and endurance.

I have days when I wish my chronic illness and all of its symptoms would disappear. Some days it makes life feel incredibly hard. But even in the middle of those struggles, I can see how it has changed me. It has made me stronger. It has brought me to my knees in prayer more than I used to, because prayer is often the only way I make it through my hardest days.

What trials in your life have helped shape you into a stronger person? How have your hardest moments brought you closer to God?
