My Daily Musings-July 8th, 2026

One of my favorite hymns has always been Abide with Me, ‘Tis Eventide. This year, it has taken on even deeper meaning as I’ve focused on my word of the year: abide.

I love that Martin Lowrie B. Morris, an American Christian minister, wrote this hymn after reflecting on the story of the two disciples on the road to Emmaus (Luke 24:13–35). As evening approached, they pleaded with the Savior to stay with them. That simple invitation became the inspiration for a hymn that has helped countless people draw closer to Christ.

To me, this hymn is more than a beautiful evening song. It feels like a heartfelt prayer asking Jesus to remain with us—not just at the close of the day, but through every moment of our lives. I believe He is always near, waiting for us to invite Him in. Will we make room for Him today? How might our lives change if we consciously sought His presence in every moment instead of only during life’s difficult seasons?

Today, I’m sharing a simple a cappella recording of this beautiful hymn. My hope is that as you listen, you’ll feel the peace that comes from knowing our Savior is always willing to abide with us.
