The Beauty of Creation, the Joy of Praise

Melodies & Musings

I have always loved the hymn, All Creatures of Our God and King. The music of that hymn is beautiful, but its words really resonate with me. My favorite is the fourth verse. It reads:

Dear Mother Earth, who day by day

Unfoldest blessings on our way,

Alleluia! Alleluia!

The flow’rs and fruits that in thee grow,

Let them his glory also show,

Alleluia! Alleluia!

Alleluia! Oh, praise Him! Alleluia!

I have always felt peace and joy being out in the beauty of nature, so maybe that’s why this verse really resonates with me. Our Heavenly Father made this beautiful world for us to live in, and He wants us to enjoy it. For me, I can feel my Heavenly Father’s love the most when I am outside and enjoying the beauty around me. And as this verse tells us, the earth helps us see the blessings around us and the flowers and fruits that grow on the earth show us the glory of Him who created them. Thinking about this makes me want to sing, “Alleluia! Oh, praise Him! Alleluia!”

What hymn or song helps you feel closer to God, and what makes it meaningful to you? Where in nature do you feel the most peace, and how does the beauty of God’s creations help you feel His love?

When I Cannot Fix It

Thank you for subscribing-may these words bring a quiet moment of peace and reflection to your day.

Backstory

I was inspired by Derrick Porter’s message on Music and the Spoken Word recently. He emphasized that when we rely on Jesus Christ—the Prince of Peace, Bread of Life, and Good Shepherd—no problem is truly unsolvable. When I pondered this later, I thought of a mother grieving for a child who walked away from their childhood faith. She tries to solve the problem by herself: she grieves, she questions, and she eventually realizes that she can’t do this alone. So in desperation, she cries out to her Savior for help.

When I Cannot Fix It

As a mother, I nurtured each child
And made sure they smiled.
This one decided to walk away
From the faith we instilled in her each day.

So many questions go through my mind,
“Did I see this coming or was I blind?”
“Where did I go wrong?”
“Did I make her faith strong?”

Then as these questions turn around in my head,
I know that she has been spiritually fed.
But it’s her choice what she wants to do
With what we have given her from my view.

It has been many years now since she walked away,
And in my opinion, she has gone astray.
All I can do is reach out to her in love
That I feel from my Father above.

In the broken places of my heart,
I feel like I need a fresh start.
So in desperation I kneel down and call out
To my Savior for help, and He is there without a doubt.

The Takeaway

Sometimes we cannot solve the problems in our lives by ourselves. When we feel like we can’t handle things anymore, we should reach out to our Savior for help. He might not take our burdens from us. But He can help us carry them so the weight won’t be so heavy. We need to trust that He will always be there for us.

Have you ever faced a problem that you couldn’t solve on your own? How did turning to Jesus Christ help you through it? How has prayer helped you find comfort, peace, or strength when a difficult circumstance hasn’t changed?

He Knows Where It Hurts

Thank you for subscribing-may these words bring a quiet moment of peace and reflection to your day.

Backstory:
This idea came from an every day moment with my dog, Coco. A couple days ago, Coco and I were on a morning walk. She wanted to stop to sniff something like dogs do sometimes. She was standing on some rocks and suddenly she held one of her paws up and couldn’t put weight on it. I crouched down and examined that paw. There was a tiny piece of a sticker in there. So I took it out and she was back to normal that fast, and we continued our walk like nothing had hurt her. Later, I decided to apply this experience to my life. We all have trials that feel like painful stickers to us. Not many people can see how painful our trials can be. When we feel alone and hurt, we should look to our Savior to pull the sticker out so we can feel better.

He Knows Where It Hurts

We all have trials in our lives on this earth,
It has been that way since our birth.
No one really knows what we suffer deep down,
And they don’t know how often we wear a frown.

Our trials can feel painful and can hurt us to the very core,
And the weight on our shoulders could make us fall to the floor.
Just when we have fallen and we can’t get up,
We need someone to fill our almost empty faith cup.

But don’t lose hope in that painful moment of weakness,
You just need to reach out to your Savior in the stillness.
Just know that He will be there for you in an instant
Because His love and concern for you is always consistent.

Only Jesus knows the trials you face every day,
And He will be there when your skies feel gray.
Just look up to Him and He will be by your side,
Because He has felt your pain, and every time you have cried.

Even if you feel like no one understands what you are going through,
And the weight of your trials makes you feel blue.
Just remember that you are never alone for a minute,
Jesus will be there, even if you have reached your limit.

The Takeaway: The trials we face in this life can be painful and the weight on our shoulders might at times seem very heavy to bear alone. But we are never alone. Our Savior, Jesus Christ will be there to help us through our most painful experiences. He has felt all of those feelings and emotions. If we look to Him, He will help us heal from our hardest moments in this life.

As Endless as the Sky

Thank you for subscribing-may these words bring a quiet moment of peace and reflection to your day.

My Daily Musings-July 22nd, 2026

One of the characters in the book The Lumber Baron’s Wife by Lynn Austin talks about God’s love being as endless as the sky. If you look up at the sky, you can’t see the end of it, it seems like it goes on forever. Our Heavenly Father’s love is like that. We can feel it and we know it is there, but we can’t see the end of it because it is endless and eternal. I thought that was a really good analogy.

As someone who grew up with my parents teaching me about my Heavenly Father and that He always loved me and cared about me, I have kept that belief all of my life. I feel the love of my Heavenly Father the most when I kneel to Him in prayer. Every time I pray with sincere effort and wanting to communicate with Him, I feel His love for me.

Have you ever paused to look at the sky and let it remind you of God’s endless love? When have you felt His love most personally?

We can feel His love for us any time and anywhere. He will shower us with His endless love whenever we need it.

Finding Hope When Life Feels Like Eternal Winter

Thank you for subscribing-may these words bring a quiet moment of peace and reflection to your day.

Melodies & Musings

Over a year ago, I was having a conversation with my therapist about one of my favorite book series from childhood, C.S. Lewis’s The Chronicles of Narnia. We were talking about how heavy and sad it must have been under the reign of the evil White Witch—where it was “always winter and never Christmas.”

I’ve never been a fan of winter; once Christmas passes, I’m ready for spring! During our conversation, my therapist asked me a question that really made me pause: “What is your White Witch? What are the things in your life that prevent you from feeling happy and having hope?”

I spent time pondering that question and talking with loved ones, which inspired me to write this poem. I recently pulled it out of my journal to polish it up, and its truth rings just as true today. It’s so easy for negativity, personal weaknesses, and carrying the weight of the world to freeze our joy. But in Narnia, when the great lion Aslan appears, the ice melts, Christmas returns, and hope is restored.

In our real lives, we have someone infinitely greater. Because of our Savior, Jesus Christ, winter never has the final say. No matter how cold or overwhelming life gets, His grace brings the thaw.
