A Listening Ear and a Loving Heart

“God gave us ears that remain open and a mouth that can close. Perhaps love listens first.”

I love this quote but I have never thought of our ears and mouth this way before. It is interesting that our ears never close, while our mouths can. I’m sure our Heavenly Father knew what He was doing when He created us and designed each part of our bodies the way He did for a reason.

For someone who is struggling with something really hard in their life I think it is way more important to listen to them than it is to talk. I think we all just need someone to listen to us occasionally. We need someone to be genuinely interested in us and what we have to say. Some days we just need a shoulder to cry on and a listening ear.

I am very blessed with many wonderful people-my family and friends-who have let me cry on their shoulders and listened to me over the years, especially when I have gone through something difficult.

I think the best listening ears we can ever have belong to our Heavenly Father. I don’t think He ever grows weary of listening to us and providing comfort and peace whenever we need it. He has been my comfort whenever I have needed Him through the years. He never interrupts us and always listens to us. We can go to Him whenever we need Him and He will always be there.

Who has been a good listening ear for you when you have gone through something difficult? How has Heavenly Father listened to and comforted you when you needed Him?
