My Daily Musings-July 28th, 2026
I love this quote by Patricia Holland: “I am pleading with you not to wait until you get to my age before you understand this. It is possible to live with all your power in the present. You can replace old doubts with new hopes. So clean out that closet in your mind and heal a load of needless negative baggage off.”
I have moved many times in my life. I think it’s always a good idea to go through my stuff before I move and if I’m not using it, just give it away to someone who will use it. But I never thought of cleaning out the closet in our mind and getting rid of negative baggage from the past.
I am a firm believer that we are supposed to learn from the experiences we have in this life. But we shouldn’t wish that the past could change.
I like what Rafiki says to Simba in the original Lion King movie. He tells him, “The past can hurt. But the way I see it, you can either run from it, or learn from it.” What our Heavenly Father wants us to do is learn from our past mistakes and circumstances so that we can become better moving forward. But we shouldn’t dwell on the past because we can’t change it. We need to live in the present and enjoy our lives now.
What “negative baggage” from the past do you feel you need to let go of so you can better enjoy the present? How have your past experiences helped you grow into the person you are today?
