Backstory:
In church today, I was taught a really good lesson. The teacher today with just the women in the room did a really good activity. She had us spread out so we were not sitting next to each other. She had us get a piece of paper and a pencil. She wanted us to ponder inwardly about the flaw that we despise the most about ourselves and write it down on the piece of paper. Then she had us fold them up and put them in a bowl. Then she had us draw one out of there. No one knew who wrote on the piece of paper. Then she had us think about what we would say to that woman who wrote down their flaw through the loving eyes of our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. I think we are all hard on ourselves and it’s easier to be kind to others than it is to be kind to ourselves. So this activity really made me think inwardly about how I feel about myself and how my Loving Heavenly Father and my Brother Jesus Christ feel about me.
Loved Flaws and All
Father, I am so imperfect and flawed,
I seem happy and content but sometimes I feel like a fraud.
Then inwardly I am struggling to see the good in me and I feel like my insides are being clawed,
But I know that if I could see myself through your eyes, then I would be awed.
But it is so hard to see myself through your eyes,
When I see myself all I see are my flaws and they are a huge size.
I always have an internal struggle and I wish I could be more wise,
I just need to work on my flaws and then I would see the prize.
I look in the mirror and all I see is my outward appearance,
Just seeing those outward characteristics can to my spirit be a big hindrance.
If I asked someone what I was worth in a dollar amount some days I feel like it would be a pittance,
And I struggle seeing the good in myself since all I see is on the outside instead of my inward brilliance.
So Father, please help me to see the good qualities you have given me,
I plead with you to help me to do this on bended knee.
I know that you created me, flaws and all, for a reason that I can’t fully see,
Please help me to see my real worth in your eyes for that is the key.
Once I see myself through your eyes, please help me to see others that way too,
For I know that we are here on this earth to help each other through.
You have given us each unique characteristics and this is definitely true,
Please help me to be easier on myself and others so I won’t feel so blue.
The Takeaway: We are all loved by our Heavenly Father and our Savior, Jesus Christ. We are all hard on ourselves because we have so many weaknesses that it is sometimes overwhelming. Even though we are flawed, we can overcome those flaws with the help of our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. They will help us see ourselves in a new light and help us improve ourselves. We were not meant to do this life alone.
