Backstory:
I was thinking this morning on Mother’s Day about why I go to church. Mother’s Day isn’t my favorite day of the year because of my infertility struggles. So most of the time, I don’t look forward to going to church on that day. My thoughts this morning made me think, “Why on a day when I am sad do I still go to church?” Then I thought that I go because of my devotion to God. I looked up the definition of devotion and it said it is “heartfelt dedication and love for Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, expressed through active participation in worship, obedience to commandments and a desire to follow their teachings.”

Where God Leads Me

I’m sure I’m not the first person to ask this question,
There are days when my health isn’t great and I feel like staying home would be a better option.
But I go because going to church helps arm me with a spiritual weapon,
And I go because I like to feel closer to heaven.

On my sad days, I go because I know that I should go,
Being there helps my soul to grow.
It helps me feel joy when my spirit feels low,
And I go because my love for my Heavenly Father to Him I want to show.

Being in church with imperfect people who are trying to do what is right,
Helps me feel like I can win the day to day fight.
It helps me feel in my soul more light,
Being in a room with devoted people is quite a sight.


If you are struggling and wondering why you should even bother,
Just start by thinking of your love for your Heavenly Father.
Even on the days when you don’t want to and it just seems so much harder,
Just go so that you can give him your devotion and honor.

Go to church because it helps you feel good in your heart,
That is always a good place to start.
Go when your soul needs a good restart,
And go because from your Loving Father you never want to depart.

The Takeaway: Some days it might be hard to go to church because of our different life situations. We should all reflect and ask ourselves, “Why do I go to church? What can I get out of it?” If your only reason for going is because you know you should, then that’s a good place to start. Then as you go more and more, you will probably have more reasons that keep you going back.
