Backstory:
I was talking with my Mom this morning about forgiveness. She said that it is hard to forgive someone. Sometimes you think you have forgiven someone and then a situation comes up and you realize that maybe you haven’t. Forgiveness has been hard for me too. I just think about my Savior and the many people He had to forgive that are recorded in the Bible. I’m sure there are many other instances of people He forgave that aren’t mentioned as well.
Father, Teach Me to Forgive
My dear Father in Heaven,
I know that I am far from perfect and I have too many weaknesses to mention.
I also know that I am surrounded by imperfect people who are supposed to help me learn my lesson,
I know that I am supposed to forgive as many times as seventy times seven.
In other words, please just help me frankly forgive everyone,
As you, Father forgive me even when my mistakes must weigh a ton.
Please help me to see other people through Your loving eyes until my work on the earth is done,
Please bless me to think of the example of your Perfect Son.
He is the perfect example of forgiveness,
He even forgave one of His beloved disciples who betrayed Him to those who were vicious.
He also forgave those who nailed Him to the cross so He could be an amazing witness,
He hung on the cross and asked you to forgive them even though it wasn’t His business.
Father, also please forgive me of my mistakes that are many,
I know that I will never be perfect but please help me to be worth even a penny.
Please help me to not be persuaded by the enemy,
I know that you always forgive me freely.
So, please Father, help me to be more like you,
Please help me to see myself in a better view.
I want very badly to be one of your chosen few,
So, please help me to do what you would do.
The Takeaway: We are not perfect and we never will be in this life. We are surrounded by imperfect people. It is sometimes hard to forgive those around us and even to forgive ourselves at times. We just need to look at the example of our Savior for the perfect example of forgiveness. We should also plead with our Heavenly Father for forgiveness and to help us be more like Jesus and himself.
