Backstory:
In church today, the teacher asked us, the women who were in the class, to think about our best friends. She asked us if we had someone who we could turn to, relate with and someone we could really talk to and share our experiences with? Then she asked us to think of why that person is so special to us? We had answers that we have known that person for a long time, we have had similar life experiences and so we can relate to this person easily. Then she shared that in the scriptures Jesus says to us multiple times, “Ye are my friends.” Then she asked us to think, “Do I turn to Jesus like I turn to my friends in difficult times? What is my relationship with Jesus like?” This really made me think that yes, I know that Jesus is always there for me. But it’s hard to think of turning to Him sometimes because He isn’t physically here with me. I can’t text him or call him when I am in distress like I can with my friends or family members. But I need to turn to Him more.

Turning My Heart to Jesus

I have been thinking about my wonderful friends and family who I feel I can turn to when I am distress,
Sometimes I think that I can do things myself and that is when I really start to stress.
I am so blessed that I have earthly angels by my side who can be there when my feelings I want to express,
And they know me and love me no matter what so I can feel like them I don’t need to impress.

When I think about turning to a friend when I am in need, it requires me to be vulnerable and sharing things in my life that might be hard to share,
Sometimes it’s hard to share things with someone else and I wonder if they will always be there.
We are all different but we do breathe the same air,
And there are times in our lives when we may wonder if life is ever fair.

Thinking about this made me wonder why I don’t turn to my Savior more than I do,
I know He is there for me when I need Him and this should always be a comfort to me when I’m feeling blue.
Jesus suffered everything and can relate to me more than anyone else can and He will always see me through,
Knowing this is a comfort to me but it’s hard to remember in my daily life that He will always be a friend very true.

I read about Jesus in the scriptures and feel like He will always be there for me because that is what the scriptures say,
But actually implementing this in my life is hard sometimes and there are times when I stray.
Sometimes I might think that I can do things myself and that I know the better way,
Then I remember that I wasn’t meant to be alone in my struggles and that with Jesus by my side I can win the day.

I should learn to turn to Jesus in prayer more
When I feel like my load is so heavy that I can’t get up off the floor.
Even when I feel like all the chaos of the world is such a crazy war,
Jesus is always there for me if I will just let Him in and open the door.

The Takeaway: We have great people in our lives to help us along the way. The best friend we could ever have is Jesus. We need to learn to turn to Him more when we are going through trials. He always knows how we are feeling and He wants us to turn to Him.
