Backstory:
I have always loved flowers. One of the most beautiful and fascinating flowers in my opinion is the sunflower. In my parents’ backyard when we lived in Amarillo, Texas when I was a teenager, we had a couple sunflowers. They were close to the wood fence at the back of the backyard. It was kinda frustrating to my Mom that the sunflowers would face the fence for most of the day and we couldn’t see their pretty flowers. But they were just doing what sunflowers do and facing the sun. I guess that’s why they call them sunflowers. They just naturally know that they need as much sunlight as possible so they follow the sun in the sky. I was thinking about this a couple days ago. And I thought that we as humans need to face the Son to survive and thrive.

Encountering the Son

It’s very interesting to me that sunflowers naturally face the sun,
They instinctively know how much they need the sun’s warmth and they need it a ton.
So they track the sun and turn towards it all day long and not just for fun,
Observing these flowers turn can be very interesting to watch one by one.

Without the sunshine those beautiful flowers would probably shrivel up and die,
So they do what they know is best for themselves and they follow the sun’s rays high.
They know it will be beneficial to their health and so they try,
Even science can’t totally explain what happens or why.

We as humans we also need the sun’s rays but even more than that we need the rays of the perfect Son,
He lived on the earth, suffered and died so that He could be there for everyone.
He loves us so much that He would even leave the ninety and nine and go in search of the one,
We are never lost from His sight and He will always seek us out until us He has won.

It is our choice whether we want to seek our Savior and turn ourselves towards Him,
If we choose to do so, our problems won’t just magically disappear but they might seem less grim.
He will help us feel better and the light of his rays will never dim,
With Him by our side we can feel better in our own skin.

So, like these beautiful flowers, let’s turn ourselves over to the One who will help us better survive,
With Him by our side we will more than survive, we will thrive.
Turning towards the One who can better understand us will help us feel more alive,
With the Son’s rays our spirits we can revive.

The Takeaway: Relating the sun and sunflowers can help readers apply this writing to their life. This explains how turning to the Son of God can help them feel understood, get through trials and be stronger because they know that He will always be there for them.
