Backstory:
It is sometimes easy to treasure the material things in this life and to obsess over getting more and more material possessions. They can bring us some joy in the moment. But our lasting joy comes from our faith and our inward yearnings in our hearts. So yes, it’s nice to have the latest and greatest technology and material things. But we can’t bring those things with us when we die and need to focus less on those material things. We should focus more on developing our spiritual natures because those are the things we can take with us after this life.

My Heart's True Treasure

My family was talking a couple weeks ago about what we would consider as a life of success,
We have to make money in this world to survive and the worldly possessions in life are nice to possess.
Having a nice car and house are great in the moment but of these things we probably shouldn’t obsess,
And I think that if all we treasure in life are the material things, then maybe our priorities we need to reassess.

This discussion has made me think and ponder about what I treasure,
It is really nice to do things that bring me pleasure.
And I feel like I have so many great people in my life and that I am blessed beyond measure,
But sometimes I am hard on myself and on myself I put too much pressure.

I definitely treasure my family and friends who are always there for me,
I sometimes get bogged down by my troubles and I feel like I want to flee.
Then there are times when I can feel very blessed and I want to shout with glee,
I know that everyone feels this way but we are blessed and on that I think we can agree.

I feel like I need to pay more attention to the many blessings that I receive every day,
I definitely treasure my faith and the love that I feel from my Father up above is more than I can say.
I love that He is always there for me and He knows how to help me even when I’m not feeling okay,
I treasure that He sent His Son to help me even though from the path I might stray.

So my question to you is what do you treasure the most?
Do you treasure the material things so much that you just want to boast?
Do you feel so much gratitude for your blessings that you want to make a toast?
Do you think you have made a difference in the world when all you have left is your ghost?

The Takeaway: We have material possessions in this life to bring us pleasure in the moment and those things are nice. But we need to focus more on what we can bring with us to the next life. We should focus more on those things rather than material possessions.
