The Anchor of My Soul

Backstory:
Recently, my therapist and I talked about the importance of having "anchors" in our lives—people who help steady us when life's storms feel overwhelming. As I reflected on that conversation, I realized that while God blesses us with earthly anchors, Jesus Christ is the greatest Anchor of all. He is always there to hold us steady and fill our hearts with hope.

The Anchor of My Soul

For a sailor, an anchor is very important to a ship
Because it grips something steady and helps the boat not to slip.
Our faith can be found beneath the surface
But anchored in Christ, it has a great purpose.

Even when a ship’s anchor is down, the storms around it will still rage,
But the anchor keeps it grounded through every dangerous stage.
Jesus doesn’t promise us a life free from strife
But He will be by our side through the storms of this life.

Sometimes ships that are anchored have to wait for the storms to pass,
And our trials might make us feel weak as if made of glass.
But if we have faith and trust in our Lord
He will carry us through and we can have a sweet reward.

Sailors most appreciate an anchor during a fierce storm
Because they can trust that the ship won’t lose its form.
As we deal with the storms that come our way,
We should choose to lean on our Savior every day.

Our Heavenly Father sends us people who are like anchors on a boat,
They keep us steady so that during storms we can more easily float.
When the storms of life rage in our heart and soul,
If we are anchored in Jesus, we can feel well and whole.

The Takeaway: God often uses family, friends, and others to help us through life's storms, but Jesus Christ is the one Anchor who never fails. No matter how rough the seas become, we can trust Him to keep our hearts steady and our hope secure.

The Lighthouse Through the Storm

My Daily Musings-June 6th, 2026

“Be the light that survives the storm.”

I’ve always loved lighthouses. Maybe that’s partly because one of my favorite movies growing up—and still one of my favorites today—is the original Pete’s Dragon. There is something inspiring about a lighthouse standing strong through wind, rain, and crashing waves.

What amazes me is that no matter how fierce the storm becomes, as long as the light continues to shine, ships can find their way. That light provides direction, hope, and safety when everything else seems uncertain.

Life brings storms to all of us. Sometimes we are the ones struggling through dark and difficult days, and sometimes we have the opportunity to help someone else through theirs. Heavenly Father wants us to be lights that continue to shine even when life is challenging. We can encourage others, offer kindness, and share hope with those who may be feeling lost.

At the same time, we need to keep our own light burning. Choosing hope, focusing on the good, and trusting that brighter days will come can help us weather our own storms.

For me, the ultimate light in every storm is Jesus Christ. When the winds of life feel overwhelming, His light never goes out. Because of Him, there is always hope. Because of Him, there is always a way forward. His light shines in the darkness and guides us safely through life’s storms.
