Backstory:
Over the past few weeks, my mom and I have been memorizing the words of the song, Amazing Grace together. What started as simply learning the words has turned into something much deeper. Saying them out loud — slowly and intentionally — has made me reflect on my own life. The line, “Through many dangers, toils, and snares, I have already come,” feels more personal now. I can see the moments when I was carried. I can see where grace met me in my weakness. But it’s the final words that move me most: “His grace has brought me safe thus far, and grace will lead me home.” Because of Jesus Christ and His atoning sacrifice, I am not just trying to survive this life — I am being led somewhere eternal. And that changes everything.
Grace Will Lead Me Home
The grace of Jesus Christ can be hard to understand,
But I see it pretty clearly as the strength to truly stand.
Jesus is your personal Savior, and He is mine,
If you were the only one to save, His love would still incline.
Grace is not permission to stay the same
But the power to become better because of His name.
Because of Him, we can truly repent
And our efforts are honored by our heart’s intent.
When we feel overwhelmed by the struggles of life,
We can be strengthened and feel less strife.
When we feel like we can’t take another step forward,
He will pick us up and carry us onward.
Because of His blood, we are changed bit by bit.
Becoming who Father designed, with His light to assist.
As long as we strive to improve our behavior,
Jesus will magnify us, for He is our Savior.
And because of His sacrifice and love
We’ll be reunited with our Father above.
Jesus will lead us safely back home
Where the shadows of this life will no longer roam.
The Takeaway: The message of Amazing Grace is not that we are hopeless without Him. It is that we are deeply loved — enough for Him to descend below all things so we could rise. If His grace has brought us this far through heartache, doubt, growth, repentance, and refinement… then we can trust it to carry us the rest of the way. We are not walking toward home alone. Grace is walking with us — and leading us there.
