I am prone to depression sometimes. Being sick makes my body feel so sick and weak but it also makes me feel weak emotionally. I have noticed when I am sick or when my body feels awful because of my chronic illness, it is hard on those days to not get down on my life and feel happy. My therapist has taught me that it is ok to feel down and depressed sometimes. It is important to acknowledge those feelings. But I need to get myself out of those feelings as well. I need to be happy and grateful for what I have. Some days it is easier than other days to get out of those depressed thoughts and feelings.

Finding Light Beyond the Clouds

This week I had a terrible cold and I was really tired and sick,
Feeling like that for about a week is something I wouldn’t pick.
I was wondering if this sickness I would ever kick,
And I just felt like I had been hit with a huge brick.

Then today I woke up and felt so much better physically,
And once that happened I also felt better emotionally.
I think those two are connected and when one is out of whack it affects the other one pretty significantly,
This made me think that when I was sick I felt like I had a big cloud over my head literally.

Some days when it is cloudy and rainy outside it makes me feel gloomy with myself inside,
Even though I try to be happy on those days I think these things coincide.
I also know that how I feel emotionally I can definitely decide,
Every time I feel like that then it’s quite an emotional ride.

When I felt better after being sick it was like the sun had come out to shine just for me,
It had been a rough week and it was like I was blind and I was finally able to see.
And yes I know that I am human and I will get sick again and I might want to flee,
But the sun always comes up and I just need to remember that this is the key.

I also know that my soul will have days when things feel kinda bleak,
And then I will have times when more sunshine in my soul I will seek.
But I think that all of us have times when we feel emotionally weak,
And then we can also have times when we can see clearly like we are high on a mountain peak.

The Takeaway: We all have days when we are sick physically or we are having a hard time. We just need to remember that the sun always comes up and that there is always hope even when we are feeling down or depressed.

Backstory:
I have an autoimmune disease and I have to be careful to not do too much during the day because my body just can’t handle as much as a normal healthy person can. Some days it is hard to change my perspective about my life and especially my health issues. But I also know that there are people out there who have it worse than I do. But still it can be hard to have a good day and a good state of mind when my body is feeling so awful and exhausted. This will probably be a lifelong pursuit for me to change my perspective because living with a chronic illness is not easy. It is harder on some days than other days to have a better perspective.

Seeing Life Through God's Eyes

I realized lately that I complain quite a bit about my health and issues there,
Some days I wake up and of my pain in my body I am more aware.
And some days I think that my life is kind of unfair,
Some days it is hard because I can’t control how I’m going to feel physically so I feel some despair.

So I decided that I needed to change my perspective about this,
If I didn’t change how I thought then my blessings I might miss.
Even though sometimes all my life isn’t bliss,
Some days I really feel like because of my health my life is in crisis.

But I knew I needed to make a change in my mind,
If I didn’t I knew I would feel like my perspective would be blind.
I knew that if I changed my perspective then more blessings I would find,
And changing my way of thinking has put me in a better state of mind.

I decided to think of my health in a different way,
I know that this life isn’t the end and I should enjoy my life even when I am having a hard day.
I want to just think of the amazing feeling it will be when this life is over someday,
My body will be resurrected and everything will be okay.

I’m very grateful that because of Jesus my friend,
That this pain whether it is emotional or physical will have an end.
So I can feel lighter and my new change of mind I don’t need to pretend,
Jesus suffered it all and way more than I can comprehend.

The Takeaway: Even though we have trials with our physical bodies, we shouldn’t dwell on our limitations and things that hold us back. We should be grateful that because of Jesus our bodies will be made whole again, we will be resurrected and there is hope because of Him.
