Isaiah 43:2-“When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned: neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.”

Reading Isaiah has always been intimidating for me because some parts of that book of scripture are hard for me to understand. But some of my favorite verses from the Bible come from Isaiah. I came across this verse recently and I really liked it.

For any of my frequent readers, you have heard me say many times that we are never alone in our trials. This verse testifies of that. The first part, “When thou passest through the water, I will be with thee,” makes me think of the children of Israel passing through the Red Sea on dry ground. God was with them through their escape and afterward, when they wandered in the wilderness. This teaches us that our Heavenly Father will be with us during the storms of our lives. That doesn’t mean that the storms will be taken away from us, but it does mean that we won’t be alone when we are going through those storms.

I like the second part of the verse that says that when we walk through the fire, we will not be burned. It doesn’t say that we won’t have to walk through fire, or that we won’t have trials in our lives. But our Heavenly Father won’t leave us alone in the fire. He will be with us and we will not be burned. I don’t think this means that the pain of our trials will be taken away. But we won’t have to endure those difficult times on our own.

Sometimes our trials may seem so heavy and painful that we might feel like we our hearts are being broken apart. During those difficult times, we need to reach out to our Heavenly Father for help. He will help us carry our burdens and He will be there to comfort us so we won’t feel alone.

Have you ever felt God’s presence with you during one of the “storms” or “fires” in your life? What helps you remember that you are not alone when you are going through a difficult trial?
