Tempered by His Hands

Backstory:
While listening to the audiobook Under the Starry Skies by Tracie Peterson, I was struck by a conversation comparing the tempering of steel to the way God works in our lives. Steel is heated to the point of almost melting and then cooled to make it stronger and less likely to break. It reminded me that our Heavenly Father sometimes allows us to pass through difficult trials—not to destroy us, but to strengthen our faith, refine our character, and help us become more like Him. Even when the heat feels unbearable, He never loses sight of us and knows exactly what we need.

Tempered by His Hands

A blacksmith who works on steel every day
Has to be careful not to heat it too much along the way.
But he must watch closely over his creation,
Lest it become brittle and break in frustration.

The goal of tempering the steel is to make it hard and strong
So that it can withstand anything that might go wrong.
It must pass through fire again and again, 
To stand as a shield through the trials of men. 

The Master Craftsman, our Father above,
Knows all of our needs and surrounds us with love.
He watches His children with perfect care,
And sees in our hearts every unspoken prayer.

We have trials in our lives to help us become strong like steel
But if we feel like we are going to break, all we have to do is kneel.
Our Father will be there for us in an instant
Even though sometimes we might feel that He is distant.

Our Father pours down His abundant love
And we feel His kind hand as it guides from above.
When we are caught in the midst of a storm
We reach out to Him and His peace keeps us warm.

The Takeaway: If your trials have left you feeling as though you're at your breaking point, remember that God is the Master Craftsman. He knows how much heat you can endure, and He also knows when it's time to bring peace, comfort, and strength. The fire is not evidence that He has forgotten you—it may be evidence that He is lovingly shaping you into someone stronger, wiser, and more like Christ. Trust the hands that hold you, even when you don't understand the fire.

The Lesson of the Lilies

Backstory:
While reflecting on the Savior’s words, “Consider the lilies of the field,” I began to think about how deeply nature testifies of God’s love. A wildflower growing quietly in a meadow may seem small or unnoticed to the world, yet Heavenly Father sees it, clothes it in beauty, and gives it purpose. If He notices the lilies, how much more does He notice His children? This writing grew from my love of finding God in nature and from the reminder that we do not need to prove our worth or compare ourselves with others. Like the lilies, we were created with divine purpose, and our value has always existed because we are beloved children of God. 

The Lesson of the Lilies

When you take a walk in nature you can see the beauties of this earth
And then maybe you can see yourself for your Divine Worth.
We can learn a lot looking at the wildflowers in a meadow,
They just bloom and grow in the sun’s warm, gentle glow.

They don’t worry about what other flowers think of them,
They just open up their buds and grow from their stem.
We shouldn’t be concerned what others think of us,
Instead we look toward the Savior, in whom we place our trust.

Flowers are beautiful just the way they are,
Brightening the meadow like a tiny, radiant star.
We don’t need to prove our worth to anyone
For we are deeply loved by the Father and the Son.

Flowers bloom where they are planted one season at a time
They don’t worry about tomorrow but they enjoy their prime.
We should enjoy every moment of every day
And trust Him to guide and light our way.

Our Loving Heavenly Father created this world for us to enjoy
Designed in His perfect love so we might have true joy.
We should trust in His plan for our lives while on this earth
And  if we see through His Heavenly Lens then we can know our Divine Worth.

The Takeaway: The lilies teach us to trust the Creator who knows us completely. We do not need to spend our lives comparing, striving to prove our worth, or fearing tomorrow. Heavenly Father already sees, knows, and loves us. Like the flowers of the field, we can grow where we are planted, bask in His light, and trust that we are precious in His sight.

When Presence Matters More Than Answers

My Daily Musings-May 22nd, 2026

Sometimes the greatest comfort we can offer someone is not advice, but simply our presence. I was reminded of this today while talking with a friend who shares some of the same health struggles that I do. There is something meaningful about being understood by someone who has walked a similar road. Even when they cannot fix our problems, their willingness to listen can make us feel less alone.

Later, I saw a post from a friend whose son passed away from cancer years ago. Yesterday would have been his high school graduation. The school placed an empty chair beside the graduates with his cap, gown, and diploma resting there to honor him. My heart ached for her. I realized again that in moments of deep sorrow, people often do not need quick answers or perfectly worded advice. Sometimes there are no answers that can immediately heal the pain.

What people often need most is a listening ear and a compassionate heart. Instead of saying, “I know exactly how you feel,” maybe it is better to say, “I cannot imagine how hard this must be, but I am here to listen.” How often do we try to fix pain when what someone really needs is simply to feel heard? How much healing can come just from knowing someone cares enough to stay and listen?

Jesus showed us this kind of love during His ministry. He listened to people. He wept with them. He allowed them to express their grief and fears. His compassion was not rushed or dismissive. He showed that sometimes the most Christlike thing we can do is simply be there for one another.

The Bridge Between Fear and Faith

Backstory:
Sometimes the paths Heavenly Father invites us to walk feel uncertain and uncomfortable at first. We may hesitate because we cannot yet see where the journey will lead or who we might become along the way. This writing was inspired by the realization that some of the greatest peace and joy in life come when we trust Him enough to step beyond our comfort zones and follow the quiet promptings He places on our hearts. What once felt frightening can become the very thing that helps us grow, heal, and bless others. 

The Bridge Between Fear and Faith

Imagine that you are walking alone along a mountain road,
Just being outside in nature lightens your heavy load.
You see a beautiful river and so you follow it,
And you feel your spirit expand with joy for a bit.

Then you come to a rickety and old bridge 
And under it you see the beautiful river’s edge.
You almost pass by the bridge but then you stop with a question
As you see a man and you recognize Him at once as your Father in Heaven.

He is standing on the other side of this bridge of decay,
And you feel like He is very far away.
He beckons for you to cross the bridge to Him,
But then you look down and you feel like your chance is slim.

He speaks to you with a voice of perfect love that you can feel,
He tells you to trust in Him and you feel like that love is so real.
So you take the first step forward onto this bridge of old
And your fears and doubts for a moment make you feel cold.

You keep moving forward along this rickety old bridge closer to your goal,
And with your Father’s help along the way your heart feels whole.
You eventually reach Him and He embraces you, so proud of His child,
You feel so loved and valued that all your worries and cares seem mild.

You sit down with Him and He tells you how proud He is of you
For the person you are becoming from His Fatherly view.
Your heart feels so light and joyful that you don’t want Him to depart,
Just being with Him, you feel like you have made a fresh new start.

The Takeaway: Heavenly Father often leads us across bridges we never thought we could walk. When we trust Him and take one faithful step at a time, He strengthens us, lightens our burdens, and guides us toward the person He knows we can become.

Peace Is Found In Him

My Daily Musings-May 6th, 2026

C.S. Lewis once said, “God cannot give us a happiness and peace apart from Himself, because it is not there. There is no such thing.”

That truth feels so simple, yet so profound. Everything we have comes from God—every blessing, every tender mercy, every moment of light in our lives. So it makes sense that true happiness and lasting peace would come from Him too.

Sometimes we search for peace in other places—circumstances, achievements, or even the approval of others—but those things can only go so far. Real peace, the kind that steadies our hearts even in hard moments, is found in turning to Him.

When I stop and think about it, I realize how many blessings I overlook each day. There are so many small, quiet ways God shows His love—ways that are easy to miss if I’m not paying attention. And yet, they’re always there.

He wants us to feel peace. He wants us to be happy. Like a loving Father, He invites us to come to Him, to trust Him, and to rely on Him.

What might change if we more intentionally recognized His hand in our daily lives?
Where are we looking for peace—and could we turn a little more toward Him to find it?
