My Daily Musings-September 25th, 2026

I love this quote from the book, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader by C.S. Lewis. Aslan is talking to Lucy when he says, “Courage, dear heart. There are better things ahead than any we leave behind.” Lucy is sad about leaving Narnia. I have always loved The Chronicles of Narnia books. There is so much good advice in those books and they are delightful to read.

This quote is one of the best from those books. C.S. Lewis went from being an atheist to becoming a Christian. After he converted to Christianity, he was very devout until the end of his life. I have heard that the character of Aslan in these books is a representation of Jesus Christ. So if we think about the quote as coming from Jesus, then we have a whole new perspective.

Sometimes it may be scary to leave behind something we have loved and step out into the unknown. I have felt this way many times in my life because I have moved a lot throughout my life. It’s scary to move to a different area with new people you don’t know, or to step into a new job, or something similar. But I agree with Aslan when he tells us that there are better things ahead than any we leave behind. If we think of Aslan as Jesus, then because of Jesus, there is hope for the future. We can step out into the unknown of the future with confidence knowing that we are not alone because Jesus is always beside us.

How does knowing that Jesus is with you change the way you face an uncertain future? Is there a time when you felt God leading you into something new, even though leaving the familiar was difficult?
