Learning From the Rough Places

Thank you for subscribing-may these words bring a quiet moment of peace and reflection to your day.

Backstory:
Lately I’ve been thinking about the weaknesses we carry and the mistakes we make. Sometimes those struggles feel discouraging, like proof that we are failing or not changing fast enough. But our weaknesses are not meant to defeat us—they are meant to teach us. As I reflected on my own struggles, I began to think of us like rough stones. When a stone is first taken from the earth, it is jagged and uneven. But over time, through polishing and shaping, those rough edges begin to smooth. In much the same way, the weaknesses we wrestle with throughout our lives can shape us if we allow the Savior to work in our hearts. Through His Atonement, our mistakes can become learning experiences instead of endings.

Learning From the Rough Places

My dear Father in Heaven,
I love thee much, without question.
I know I begin like a stone with edges so rough,
And I know being human and changing is tough.

Please help me to smooth out the ways I behave,
To become like Thy Son, the One who can save.
Sometimes when Thy chisel strikes deep into me,
It hurts—but Thou seest what I cannot see.

Thou knowest my soul when I’m tempted to quit;
Thou seest the light when I cannot find it.
When I am discouraged by each flaw and fault,
Please bring my heart’s heavy spirit to halt.

When I lose my temper with those I hold dear,
Help them to forgive me and cast out my fear.
Help me forgive me, and find through Thy grace,
The warmth of Thy steady and loving embrace.

Please, Father, from deep in my flawed, honest heart,
I ask for Thy help to make a brand-new start.
I trust that through Jesus, Thy Beloved Son,
I can be refined until we are all one.

The Takeaway: Weaknesses and mistakes are not signs that we are beyond hope. They are opportunities to grow, to become more humble, and to turn our hearts toward Jesus Christ. Through Him, our rough places can be softened and refined. As we trust the Savior and keep trying, the very things that once discouraged us can become the tools that help shape us into the people our Heavenly Father knows we can become.

Softly He Calls Me Home

Thank you for subscribing-may these words bring a quiet moment of peace and reflection to your day.

Backstory:
While memorizing the words of the hymn “Softly and Tenderly Jesus Is Calling” with my mom, I was struck by the way the words describe the Savior’s voice. At first, He calls softly and tenderly, like a gentle whisper to the heart. But as the hymn continues, His invitation becomes more earnest and pleading. It reminded me of the parable of the prodigal son and how much the Savior longs for each of us to come home to Him. His love is patient, but it is also persistent. He never stops calling us back to Him and He never will.

Softly He Calls Me Home

We are human and we make mistakes every day,
And we need Jesus to redeem us more than we could ever say.
Our Father sent His Son to this fallen world
Where the fiery darts of the adversary are constantly being hurled.

Jesus loves each one of us so much
And He suffered so that we could feel His loving touch.
Jesus is constantly calling us to Him
So that the light in our lives never grows dim.

He starts out calling to us softly and tenderly like a whisper in our heart,
He patiently waits for us to answer Him so we can have a fresh new start.
He is constantly calling to us from up above,
And we can feel His love resting upon us like a peaceful dove.

Even if we don’t hear His soft call the first time or two,
He won’t ever give up because He loves me and you.
He’ll keep on calling no matter what it takes,
Even though every time we ignore Him, His heart breaks.

But He will never give up calling to us
A truth of His mercy we must always discuss.
Until that great day when we see Him again
And He will embrace us every woman and man.

The Takeaway: The Savior’s voice may begin as a quiet whisper, but His love never gives up on us. Whether we feel near to Him or far away, He is always calling us to return. Because of His mercy and forgiveness, we never need to linger in the distance. We can always turn toward Him and come home.

A Heart That Still Beats

My Daily Musings-March 11th, 2026

Sometimes when we feel discomfort or pain in our bodies, our instinct is to turn away from it. We want to distract ourselves or wish it away. But yesterday my therapist guided me through a meditation called Turning Toward.

Instead of ignoring the discomfort, I acknowledged it for a moment. I noticed where it was and simply allowed it to be there.

Then later in the meditation, I was asked to scan my body and find a place that felt pleasant or peaceful. Somewhere that reminded me that not everything was pain.

I placed my hand over my heart and focused on the steady rhythm of it beating.

In that quiet moment, I felt something unexpected—gratitude.

Even though my body has limitations because of autoimmune disease, it is still a gift. This heart keeps beating. My lungs keep breathing. My body continues to carry me through each day.

I can acknowledge the struggles my body faces while still feeling grateful for the miracle of it.

Today I felt thankful for this body my Heavenly Father has given me—the one that allows me to live, to love, and to experience this life.

What parts of your life can you turn toward with gratitude today?

The Beauty in the Struggle

My Daily Musings-March 8th, 2026

Think about your favorite stories — the books you reread, the shows you love, the movies that make you cheer. Somewhere in each one, there is always a struggle. The hero or heroine faces something hard, something that seems impossible. And when they finally overcome it, we rejoice with them. The victory feels sweeter because of the trial.

What if our lives are meant to follow that same pattern?

We might say we would choose the easier path if we could. We may wish for fewer tears, fewer setbacks, fewer stretching moments. But would the joy feel as deep without the struggle that came before it? Would we recognize the miracle if we had never wrestled in the waiting?

Life was never meant to be easy — but it was never meant to be lonely either. Our Heavenly Father and our Savior walk with us through every chapter. They see the whole story when we can only see the page we’re on.

Maybe the hard parts aren’t interruptions to the story.

Maybe they are the story — the very moments that prepare us to rejoice.

Faith That Carries Us Through

My Daily Musings-March 3rd,2026

As I was listening to Sense and Second Chances, one line stayed with me. After losing both of their parents in a plane crash, someone wondered how the siblings could still believe in God. Their answer was simple: it was their faith that carried them through. They couldn’t have survived that loss without Him.

I thought about my own trials—especially the daily battle with my health—and I felt that truth settle deeply into my heart. I truly don’t know how I would get through each day without my Heavenly Father. Without the quiet reassurance that I am not alone. Without a Savior who understands suffering perfectly.

Faith doesn’t always remove the trial. But doesn’t it change how we walk through it? Doesn’t it steady our hearts when everything else feels uncertain?

How do people endure life’s deepest sorrows without knowing they are held? And how has your faith carried you in ways nothing else could?

I am so grateful to know that even on the hardest days, I am seen, strengthened, and sustained by Him.

When You Cannot Remain Silent

Thank you for subscribing-may these words bring a quiet moment of peace and reflection to your day.

My Daily Musings-March 1st, 2026

Recently I listened to The Heavenly Man by Brother Yun. One line has stayed with me: “When God truly moves in your heart, you cannot remain silent.”

I’ve been thinking about that.

When God plants faith deep within us—when our testimony of His love and of His Son, Jesus Christ, begins to grow—it doesn’t sit quietly. It presses outward. It longs to be shared.

That’s how I feel about writing. I don’t write because I have to. I write because I cannot remain silent. I feel that God gave me this gift and this testimony so I can proclaim that He lives, that He loves every one of His children, and that there is real hope in Jesus Christ.

What has God placed in your heart that is meant to be shared?
What gift has He given you that might light someone else’s corner of the world?

I truly believe He gives each of us unique talents so we can strengthen one another. We are not meant to hoard light—we are meant to pass it on. When faith builds inside of us, it is meant to bless more than just our own lives.

Maybe the reason you feel that stirring in your heart is because heaven never intended for you to remain silent either.

Climbing Higher to Pray

Thank you for subscribing-may these words bring a quiet moment of peace and reflection to your day.

My Daily Musings-Feb.28th, 2026

In Luke 6:12 we read that Jesus “went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.”

All night.

The Son of God, perfect and without sin, still sought His Father in deep, uninterrupted communion. That detail feels sacred to me. If He needed time alone to pray — to feel strength, clarity, and love — how much more do I?

I imagine the weight He carried each day. Teaching. Healing. Loving. Being surrounded constantly. And yet He chose to step away, to climb higher, to be still with His Father.

He didn’t just teach about prayer — He showed it.

Just as His baptism was an example for us, His private prayers were too. He modeled dependence on the Father. He showed that divine strength flows from divine connection.

I’ve felt that in my own life. When I pause — even briefly — to pray throughout my day, I feel steadied. Guided. Loved.

If the Savior sought the mountain to pray, maybe I need to seek my own quiet places more often.

Small Acts, Global Impact

Thank you for subscribing-may these words bring a quiet moment of peace and reflection to your day.

My Daily Musings-Feb.27th, 2026

Sometimes the state of the world feels overwhelming. Wars rage, hearts harden, and darkness seems louder than light. It’s easy to wonder what difference one person—one small life in one small corner—can really make.

Then I heard this simple truth: “Some might wonder how they can help achieve world peace. The answer is to keep the commandments of God and serve your fellow man.”

World peace doesn’t begin in conference rooms or headlines. It begins in hearts. It begins in homes. It begins when I choose patience over anger, kindness over criticism, obedience over convenience.

When we keep the commandments, we invite God’s Spirit into our lives. When we serve others, we spread His light. And light—no matter how small—pushes back darkness.

What if peace in the world begins with peace in my heart? What if the most powerful thing I can do today is simply to live what I believe?

Maybe changing the whole world starts with changing my world.

And together, as we each strive to live a little better and love a little more, we just might make more of a difference than we think.

Walking Blind, Guided by Faith

Thank you for subscribing-may these words bring a quiet moment of peace and reflection to your day.

My Daily Musings-Feb.26th, 2026

Sometimes the most powerful lessons come from unexpected places.

On an episode of Heartland, a miniature horse becomes a guide animal for a blind girl. I couldn’t stop thinking about the trust that would require—to place your hand on that lead and believe you will not be guided into harm.

She cannot see what lies ahead. She may not know when a step up or down is coming. Yet she walks forward anyway.

How often do we feel that way in our own lives? Walking into the unknown, unsure of what waits around the corner?

There are seasons when I feel like I’m walking blind—unable to see the outcome, worried I might stumble or fall. And yet, maybe that is when trust matters most.

What would happen if we placed our trust fully in our Heavenly Father? If we allowed Him to guide us, step by careful step, trusting that He sees what we cannot?

We may not see the path clearly. But He does. And He is not leading us into obstacles—He is leading us home.

At the Feet of the Master Healer

Thank you for subscribing-may these words bring a quiet moment of peace and reflection to your day.

Backstory:
While singing the hymn “Lord, I Would Follow Thee,” one phrase stopped me: “I would learn the healer’s art.” I’ve sung those words many times before, but this time they felt different. I began thinking about the Master Healer Himself — about the countless times Jesus healed not only blinded eyes and withered limbs, but broken hearts and wounded souls. So many of our wounds today aren’t visible. They’re emotional scars carried quietly. And yet Christ’s power to heal is not limited by time or type of pain. He still binds up the brokenhearted. He still makes whole what feels shattered. I began to see that learning “the healer’s art” means first letting Him heal me — and then asking Him to teach me how to handle others’ wounds the way He handles mine: with compassion, patience, and love.

At the Feet of the Master Healer

Jesus went about doing good as the scriptures say,
He helped and healed people every single day.
For Him, it didn’t matter what they had been through,
He saw them with mercy and a Heavenly view.

Jesus is the Master Healer, constant and true,
Whose touch has the power to make us all new.
Even though we can’t see Him physically,
He will be there for us when we need Him instantly.

After Jesus was resurrected He still had each scar
To remind us of His suffering and how precious we each are.
Because of those scars, we can feel of His healing power
And He will help heal our hearts and spirits any hour.

We all carry burdens and wounds in our souls,
That only His mercy can ever make whole.
After our hearts are healed, we can learn from Jesus how to heal others
For we are all on this earth together as sisters and brothers.

As we study the Healer’s art from the Master,
Our hearts will find peace and our spirits grow vaster.
As we truly want to learn from the Master’s love,
He will send us His compassionate Spirit from above.

The Takeaway: Christ is the Master Healer. He has the power to heal every wound — physical, emotional, and spiritual. He even chose to keep His own scars as a witness of His love and redeeming grace. As we come to Him with our broken places, He mends us. And as we follow Him, He teaches us how to extend that same gentleness to others. The healer’s art is learned at His feet — and practiced in how we love.
