Our Ultimate Lifeboat

Backstory:

I listened to a really good audiobook called Iceberg by Jennifer A. Nielsen. It is a historical fiction about survivors of the Titanic. The author writes in the notes at the end of the book that we all need to find “lifeboats” to cling to, safe people who we trust and who support us. After I heard that part, my mind immediately went to my Savior, Jesus Christ as my lifeboat. I want to explore the similarities of a literal lifeboat and Jesus.

Our Ultimate Lifeboat

A lifeboat saves people from danger and death

As Jesus rescues and saves us from sin, despair, physical and spiritual death.

For a survivor of a sinking ship, a lifeboat is their only hope,

We cannot save ourselves, but with Jesus with us, we can more easily cope.

Stepping into a lifeboat requires trust

As we follow Jesus, trusting in Him is a must.

We should trust Him enough to leave behind our old ways,

And step into His care, sending our life into a new phase.

A lifeboat carries the person to a safe place,

Where their doubts and fears will be replaced.

Similarly, With Jesus as our safe haven,

The very powers of darkness and despair will be shaken.

Lifeboats bring passengers to safe ground,

Jesus can bring us to a place where peace can always be found.

After the sinking of the Titanic ship,

Some people didn’t accept the peace of the lifeboat trip.

Some people choose not to accept the peace Jesus can offer,

So they can be away from those troubled waters.

Jesus is our Ultimate Lifeboat,

With Him by our side in the waters of life, we can more easily float.

The Takeaway: In the story of the sinking ship the Titanic, the only refuge and peace that was found was on a lifeboat. We all have trials and troubles in this life. Our Savior, Jesus Christ can be our Ultimate Lifeboat when we are in troubled waters. He can be our refuge and strength when we need it the most.
