Isn’t it amazing that we are always given another chance-truly an unlimited number of chances-because of the Atonement of Jesus Christ?
When I fall short, when I make the same mistake again and again, I am reminded that as long as I repent and keep trying to become better, the Savior never gives up on me. Because of Him, there is always another chance.
Isn’t it remarkable that our Savior willingly gave us that gift-to always have another chance? And that our Heavenly Father knew we would need it? He knew our humility, our weaknesses, and our struggles, and in His perfect love, He provided His Son so we could begin again and again.
We cannot fully comprehend the depth of Christ’s love in suffering for us, nor the love of our Father in preparing a plan that required such a sacrifice. Yet we feel that love each time we turn back to Them.
The words of the second verse of the hymn As Bread Is Broken capture this hope so beautifully:
“We drink the water in memory
Of blood Thou spilt in Gethsemane.
Lord, wilt Thou wash us from ev’ry stain-
OUr hearts and hands make clean again.”
Because of Jesus Christ, our hearts and hands can be made clean again-and again.
So I would like each of us to think of these questions: When have I felt the Savior give me another chance, even when I felt undeserving of one? How can remembering the Atonement of Jesus Christ help me be more patient with myself-and with others-as we all try again?
