Backstory:
I really like this verse in John 10:27 that reads, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” Jesus is our Good Shepherd and we are His sheep. In the first century, multiple flocks often shared a single enclosure, making it crucial for sheep to recognize their own shepherd’s voice to avoid confusion and danger. I think it is the same for us. We need to know our Savior enough so that we would recognize His voice if He called to us.
The Good Shepherd
We are sheep in Jesus’ fold
He is our Good Shepherd and He will try to keep us out of the cold.
We need to know Him enough so that we would recognize His sweet voice
Amidst all of the chaos and distracting noise.
We need to trust in Jesus enough
So that we would give Him our burdens when life feels rough.
We need to believe that He has our best interests at heart,
And that He will never from us part.
We need to make sure that we each have a deep, personal relationship with Him
So that we would follow where He leads even when life seems grim.
Jesus will help us feel protected
Even when danger and chaos are detected.
Jesus knows us and our needs better than we do,
He will always be there to help us when we are feeling blue.
He laid down His life for His sheep,
So that He could help us when all we want to do is weep.
He calls us to Him so that He can give us comfort and peace,
And then, our worries and troubles will cease.
He will go before us and protect us from any hazard
So that we can feel safe and to Him be gathered.
The Takeaway: Jesus is our Good Shepherd and we are His sheep. We need to know Him enough so that we could recognize His voice if He called to us. We need to make sure that we trust Him enough to catch us when we fall. He will always be there for us, we just need to trust Him enough to let Him come to our aid.
